What to Look For in a Mousepad
Things that actually matter
Surface consistency. Cheap pads have fast centers and slow edges. Quality pads feel identical everywhere. This matters far more than raw speed. Artisan and LGG excel here; budget Amazon pads don't.
Size for your sensitivity. High-sens players (800 DPI, 1.5 in-game) can use 350mm pads. Low-sens players (400 DPI, 2.0+) need 450mm+ for comfortable 180° turns. Measure your actual mouse movement before buying.
Base grip. Rubber bases work on most desks. Cloth bases slip on smooth surfaces. If your current pad slides, the new one will too unless the base is better.
Stitched edges (for cloth pads). Unstitched edges fray within 6-12 months. Stitched edges last 2-3+ years. Worth paying $5-10 more for stitched.
Things that sound good but don't matter much
RGB lighting. Looks cool for 2 weeks, then you forget it exists. Don't pay $30 extra for RGB unless you genuinely love it.
Water resistance claims. All mousepads survive occasional spills if you clean them quickly. "Waterproof" marketing is mostly meaningless.

Products We Considered
Artisan Zero Soft: Slightly slower than the Hien, preferred by some tactical FPS players. Didn't make our list because the Hien is more versatile — works for both fast and slow-paced games. If you only play Valorant or CS2, the Zero is worth considering.
Logitech G640: Decent budget pad at $29, but the LGG Saturn Pro beats it in every category for the same price. The G640 was our value pick for years, but LGG dethroned it.
Corsair MM300: Similar to the SteelSeries QcK but slightly less durable according to long-term reviews. At similar pricing, the QcK is the safer bet.
