Things that actually matter

DHA content. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supports brain and eye development. Look for 0.15-0.25% DHA minimum, typically from fish oil or salmon.
Protein quality. Puppies need 22-32% protein depending on breed size. Named meat sources (chicken, lamb, fish) should be in first 2-3 ingredients. Avoid generic "meat meal."
Things that sound good but don't matter much
