What to Look For in Pre-Workouts
Transparency: No proprietary blends
If a pre-workout lists a "proprietary blend" without individual doses, pass. You have no way to know if you're getting effective amounts of each ingredient or just pixie-dusted quantities and a caffeine bomb.

Key ingredients and clinical doses
Citrulline (6-9g): Boosts nitric oxide for muscle pumps and blood flow. Under 6g is too little to be effective. Look for L-citrulline or citrulline malate.
Beta-alanine (3.2-5g): Buffers lactic acid for endurance. This is what causes the "tingles." If you don't feel it, you're probably under-dosed. Research shows 3.2g+ is needed.
Caffeine (150-350mg): Most beneficial ingredient for performance. 150-200mg for moderate energy, 300-350mg for high stimulant users. More isn't always better — diminishing returns kick in above 400mg.
